Fix Gmail login and Google permissions in Franz

Gmail in Franz uses Google's own OAuth login. The prompts you see come from Google, not from a separate Franz password screen, so the fix depends on where the Google flow stops.

Let the Google login window open

Reload the Gmail service if the sign-in window does not appear. Google may open an account chooser, browser confirmation, or security prompt before returning to the Gmail session in Franz. Complete that prompt and wait for Gmail to finish loading before reloading again.

If you use multiple Google accounts, choose the exact Gmail or Google Workspace account you want for this Franz service. Add Gmail as a second Franz service if you want to keep two accounts signed in side by side.

Keep cookies available for the Gmail session

Cookies must be available for Google to remember the session. If you recently cleared service data, blocked cookies, or signed out of Google inside the same service view, Gmail may ask you to sign in again. Complete the Google login, then leave the Gmail service open until the inbox has fully loaded.

Clearing the whole Franz cache is rarely the first fix. Start with reload, then clear only the Gmail service data if the service is trapped in a stale login loop.

Approve the required Google permissions

During login, Google can show permission screens for Gmail access. Approve the permissions required to load Gmail in the desktop session. Franz cannot bypass Google's permission checks, and declining required access leaves Gmail at the login or consent screen.

If you are unsure whether a permission prompt is legitimate, compare it with Gmail login in a normal browser on the same account. The account and consent text should come from Google.

Check Google Workspace admin restrictions

School and company Google accounts can restrict desktop or embedded browser sign-ins. If the consent screen says the app is blocked, the Google Workspace administrator needs to allow the sign-in method for that organization. Franz cannot override an admin policy set by Google Workspace.

For a cleaner multi-account setup, add each inbox as its own Franz service so Gmail can sit beside chat, calendar, and other work tools in Franz.
